I am standing as an independent candidate in the Highbury ward of Islington in the local elections on 7 May.
My campaign focuses on SEND provision, school closures and long-term planning for education.
I want a leaflet that looks bold, graphic and different from typical political leaflets. The front should feel like a political poster, while the back provides a clear explanation and commitments.
⸻
Format • A5 leaflet • Landscape orientation • Two sides • Print-ready PDF required (CMYK, bleed) • Editable file preferred (Canva if possible)
⸻
Colour scheme
Inspired by blue and yellow (similar to Swedish flag colours).
Use: • Deep cobalt or royal blue as the main colour • Bright yellow as accent colour • White background for readability
Design should feel bold but clean, not cluttered.
⸻
Front side (impact side)
The front page should be extremely simple and striking.
Headline
The main headline should read:
SEND a message on 7 May
Important detail: • SEND should be in full capitals • “a message on 7 May” should be in lower case
This helps SEND stand out visually.
SEND should be the largest word on the page.
⸻
Visual reference to “Education, Education, Education”
Below the headline, the word Education should appear six times, arranged as a graphic block.
Example layout:
Education Education Education
Education Education Education
This is a visual reference to Tony Blair’s famous phrase from his campaign, which remains unfulfilled.
The repetition should look intentional and graphic, not like ordinary paragraph text. Education could even be repeated more times depending on your advice.
These words can be slightly lighter or smaller than the headline so the hierarchy is clear.
⸻
Candidate name
At the bottom corner:
Andrew Somerset Independent Candidate for Highbury
This should be clear but smaller than the headline.
Optional line underneath:
Local teacher. Independent candidate.
⸻
Typography
Design should use strong modern fonts.
Headline should be very large and bold.
The design should feel confident and modern.
⸻
Back side (information side)
Back page should be clean and structured.
Divide roughly into three sections.
⸻
Section 1 – My commitments
Heading:
My commitments
Bullet points such as:
• Keep the Highbury Quadrant school site in educational use - End Islington’s school closures • Defend EHCP legal protections for children with SEND (they are under threat and neglected by Islington) • Campaign for fair national funding for inclusive schools • Use falling rolls to make schools more inclusive, rather than closing them
⸻
Section 2 – About Andrew Somerset
Example text:
I am a local primary teacher working in a school recognised for strong inclusive practice. My son goes to a Highbury primary.
I see every day what children need to thrive: space, specialist support and careful planning.
I am standing as an independent to bring classroom expertise and independent scrutiny to decisions about our local schools.
At the bottom of this section add:
You have three votes in this election. Consider using one for Andrew Somerset.
⸻
Section 3 – Join the campaign
Heading:
Join the campaign
Text:
If you care about the future of SEND and our local schools, I would love to hear from you.
You can help by:
• sharing your experience • delivering leaflets • speaking to neighbours • supporting the campaign
Email: [email]
Space should be included for a QR code.
⸻
Tone and style
The leaflet should feel: • Bold • Modern • Confident • Campaign-oriented
Not: • overly traditional • cluttered • corporate
Front page should feel like a political poster.
Back page should feel like a clear explanation and invitation to get involved.
⸻
Deliverables 1. Print-ready PDF (A5 landscape, CMYK, bleed) 2. Editable file (Canva preferred if possible)
