I am seeking an experienced, native-English editor to review and polish a 40,000-word manuscript on Shia Islam. The text consists primarily of quoted material (≈60%) and author commentary. The ideal candidate will have:
Native-level English writing and editing skills Background in Islamic theology, ideally Shia studies Prior experience proofreading and editing religious/theological works
Scope of Work Proofreading Correct spelling, grammar, punctuation, and syntax Ensure consistent style (British or American English, as agreed) Standardize formatting of headings, footnotes/endnotes, bibliography
Quote Verification & Accuracy Cross-check every quotation against a provided master file Flag and correct any discrepancies in wording, diacritics, or page references Ensure proper attribution and citation style compliance
Minor Paraphrasing & Clarity Smooth out awkward constructions in both quotes (where permissible) and author commentary Preserve theological nuance and source integrity Improve flow and readability without altering meaning
Theological Consistency Identify any theological or doctrinal inconsistencies or ambiguities Suggest clarifications, footnotes, or brief annotations where needed Ensure terminology (ʿajz, taqwā, imāma, etc.) is used consistently
Style & Voice Maintain the author’s voice and tone Recommend stylistic improvements to engage both scholarly and lay readers |
