I have a wiki website for stocks that trade on the OTC Market. These stocks are sometimes called penny stocks. The site is otcwiki.net and it uses Mediawiki open source software. I believe the site has an algorithmic penalty, which can be seen in the indexing and ranking statistics. There are no manual actions showing in Search Console.
I am looking for an SEO expert with some of all of the following qualifications:
• SEO for content with citations
• Experience with wiki sites
• Knowledge of Google algorithmic penalties and how to fix site with algorithmic penalty which may be due to pages with thin content
• Experience with financial/stock related sites that have a page for every stock, but little or no original content
Impact of using quotes (with citation) on indexing and ranking
Site History
• Created 8,000 'stock' pages in early 2022, one for each stock traded on the OTC market
• Pages include wiki content (pulled from the 'wiki' page if it exists, but there are only about 200 stocks with wiki pages)
• Pages include links to news releases (can be anywhere from 0 to 20+ links)
• Pages include a description of the company, scrapped from another website and is the same as hundreds of sites (The description comes from each companies government filings)
When the Google update occurred in October 2022 the sites already dismal rankings fell even more. After researching, it became clear to me that there was an algorithmic penalty already happening. I took the following remediation measures:
• Deleted 7,500 stock pages
• Added a widget to show the price history of the stock
• Added another description (via a widget) pulled from tradingview.com
• Added two sentences with shares outstanding and shares short
Examples of pages:
• Stock page with no wiki content: https://otcwiki.net/VYGVF_-_Voyager_Digital_Cda_Ltd and https://otcwiki.net/PBTHF_-_Pointsbet_Holdings_Ltd
• Stock page with wiki content: https://otcwiki.net/EEENF_-_88_Energy_Ltd and the corresponding wiki page: https://otcwiki.net/EEENF_-_88_Energy_Ltd/Wiki
• (stock and wiki pages have the same content)
• Links page: https://otcwiki.net/ZAIRF_-_Zinc8_Energy_Solutions_Inc/Links Links also show on the stock page: https://otcwiki.net/ZAIRF_-_Zinc8_Energy_Solutions_Inc
Indexing:
• Currently both stock and wiki pages are available to Google for indexing, although the wiki content is duplicated
• News on stock pages is added via an RSS feed. A page (noindex) is created for each news release and has a redirect to the page with the news release
• Originally, wiki pages were expected to be optimized for SEO, however the strategy has changed and now the stock pages are primary
• The developer can supply more information about how and where index tags are used
Attached is the search results for the past 12 months. The spikes are when I published articles, which I have not done since September.
