Looking for a motivated and professional editor, to fully edit 60,000 words of a book on mindfulness.
We are a start-up social enterprise, supporting the UK launch of a mindfulness-based charity. Our series of books are to support the charity financially, and this is to be the first in the series.
The read-ability of the book is essential! It is a non-fiction volume on introducing/expanding the principles of mindfulness as they apply to family life; and the benefits this can have for each of us regardless of our situation and circumstances. It is also a practical guide, with exercises and example practices to follow. The writing plunges the depths of current research and thought at points, then runs through simple steps for guided exercises; swinging between quite convoluted ideas and straightforward content during the book. It may be helpful in this regard for the ideal editor to have had some experience and/or understanding of mindfulness practice, the ideas and precepts behind it, or of editing books in the following categories: mindfulness, self-help personal transformation and/or spiritual growth, motivation, or religion and spirituality.
The book is going to be an introduction to understanding and experiencing mindfulness as a tool for coming to appreciate the importance of the state of mind, and how it influences our day. It (the book) will challenge the conceptions that we have about mindfulness, becoming more mindful, and what that can mean for us as individuals and communities.
We expect that some sections of the book will be straightforward to edit, as it has been re-drafted and proof-read. Most of the book should require minimal alterations, but some of the chapters will need heavy editing. The exercises and example practices, the figures, and the appendix will not be part of this edit job, and the word count to be edited reflects only the core chapter content as it stands now after drafting and proof-reading.
This is a straightforward project for the ideal candidate, and we require the project to be started immediately on selection of bid, and to be completed within a month – no applications from those who cannot adhere to this deadline (including those already bound by other tasks with a current due deadline).
We will be closing applications at the end of June, and asking shortlisted candidates to attend a brief zoom interview and submit an edit of a 500 word piece provided early in July.
